Le Coin Perdu is an authentic 18th century home with a rustic spirit and gorgeous swimming pool, tucked away in a remote setting in the Côte d’Azur hinterland yet less than half an hour from the glistening shores of Saint-Tropez Bay. With accommodation for up to 12 guests across two stone houses and a centuries-old magnanerie, Le Coin Perdu’s unspoilt charm and distinctive character invite you to step back in time and experience the true essence of Provençal living where history meets tranquillity. Very thick stone walls keep the houses cool in summer and warm in winter. The main stone house, spread over three floors, boasts an open-plan ground floor that centres on a time-honoured Provençal kitchen, a warm gathering spot where culinary delights are crafted. Relax in the living area with its fireplace, then come together for delicious meal on the shaded al-fresco terrace. The upper levels feature a light-filled lounge with Smart TV and three well-appointed bedrooms (one with an en suite, the other two sharing a Jack & Jill-style bathroom). The fourth bedroom, with its king-size bed and private shower room, can be found upstairs in the former silkworm factory that is over 450 years old. Finally, there’s the smaller second house featuring its own well-equipped kitchen and a living-dining area that opens onto a pleasant terrace sheltered by an ancient wisteria. Two double bedrooms on the first floor, each with en-suite facilities, ensure a restful haven. Set within 4 hectares of grounds and encircled by national forest, Le Coin Perdu is perfectly located for wonderful walks, quiet reflection and star-gazing in the clear night sky. During the day you can follow tracks through the hills, barely passing another soul, or stay at home for long summer afternoons cooling off in the garden’s glorious swimming pool. Not too far away, embrace the charm of La Garde Freinet and Grimaud with cobbled lanes, flower-filled houses, café terraces and delightful markets, both surrounded by the magnificent Maures hills. A little further afield, the allure of the French Riviera also beckons with Port Grimaud and Saint-Tropez for perfect days out, offering guests at Le Coin Perdu the ideal blend of peaceful retreat and vibrant coastal life.
In the Var department of southern France, Le Coin Perdu invites you to step into a world of authenticity, tranquillity and discovery, where the timeless charm of La Garde Freinet and the Côte d’Azur hinterland await your exploration. What’s more, the glistening shores of Saint-Tropez and the French Riviera are less than half an hour away.
In a private setting with just a handful of other properties along the road, Le Coin Perdu is reached via a 2.5km-long unmade dirt track with bumps along the way – take it slowly and you will soon get used to it (it is due some improvement work in April 2025 so watch this space, although it will still remain a dirt road after).
Here you are surrounded by national forest, a great base for walks/hikes from your doorstep. You may not pass another soul as you follow tracks through the hills towards Grimaud or La Garde Freinet.
Despite this remote location, characterful La Garde Freinet is only 6km by car, a medieval perched village with pretty stone houses, café terraces, galleries and flower-filled cobbled lanes. The village comes to life when its twice-weekly market takes place on the main square – look out for a wealth of delicious chestnut based products and other regional delights.
Beyond the village, explore the dramatic landscapes of the Maures massif. Wander through ancient olive groves, deep forests and hidden valleys, immersing yourself in the raw beauty of nature. Just a short journey away lies Grimaud (6.5km), a captivating village steeped in history. Lose yourself in its winding streets, where centuries-old stone houses and restaurants evoke the romance of bygone eras.
Venture further to discover the enchanting allure of Port Grimaud (14km), often referred to as the ‘Venice of Provence’. With its network of waterways, colourful houses and inviting waterfront restaurants, Port Grimaud offers a unique blend of relaxation and vibrant local culture.
For those seeking a coastal Côte d’Azur escape, Sainte-Maxime (19km) and the world-renowned Saint-Tropez (18km) beckon with their beaches, lively marinas and chic boutiques. Whether you’re indulging in water sports, playing golf, touring the French Riviera by boat or enjoying high-end dining, these destinations provide a wealth of activities to enrich your holiday experience.
