In the traditional conical style of the Puglia region, Tenuta Montanaro has the feel of a real family home. A few chilled bottles of white wine await you on arrival, produced on a small scale by the owner in the vineyards which surround the property.
Tranquil manicured gardens and a magnificent outdoor pool (with a shallow section for younger guests), embody the spirit of outdoor living which characterises the region. Just outside the town of Locorotondo, you are within a 30-min drive of pristine beaches and the turquoise waters of the Adriatic.
The house’s ground floor presents simple country-style accommodation and due to its layout is just right for a family of 4-6. All 3 bedrooms have their own conical roof, and one is a walk-through bedroom leading to the kitchen and dining room.
A kitchen/lounge with patio doors has direct access to the grounds, as does a further lounge and dining room with an open fireplace. There are two bathrooms with showers, including the master bedroom’s own en suite.
Just 4km away, Locorotondo is the nearest town, a labyrinth of pretty whitewashed houses huddled together on the hill-tops of the Valle d’Itria, enjoying superb views. Locorotondo is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, so getting out and about in the countryside is a rewarding experience. When you come back into town, take a seat at a café on Piazza Vittorio Emanuele or visit one of the pretty churches.
Other towns in the area are equally charming, among them Alberobello (9km), Cisternino (9km) and Ostuni (29km), thought to be one of the most beautiful places in the region. The baroque buildings and dreamy piazzas of Martina Franca (6km) are also worth a visit.
Locorotondo is in the verdant Valle d’Itria region of southern Italy. It’s a peaceful town with a historic hilltop centre, Centro Storico, where a maze of little white-washed houses share space with churches, bars and restaurants. Locorotondo is known for its wine production, mainly white, and you will have many chances to sample the local varieties when dining.
The town sits on a railway line, leading directly to the coastal city of Bari, where the region’s main international airport is based. This also makes it easy to visit other nearby towns including Albarello and Martina Franca. As the surrounding area is so naturally stunning, Locorotondo is a great place from which to survey the scene, giving it the epithet ‘the balcony of the Valle d’Itria’. Traditional trulli dot the landscape, amidst vineyards, farmland and olive groves.
