Casa Terra Vedema is the main building of a traditional “Kapetanospito” (ship owner’s country house) dating back to 1886, where, together with its underground “canava” (wine cellar with grape stomping vats), was the country house of a wealthy financial family of Oia in the 19th
century. It is located in the traditional settlement of Finikia on Santorini, within earshot -just 700m- from the enchanting Oia. The property provides complete privacy, private parking 350Mbps Starlink Internet and safe luggage drop-off.
The space
Today, we find ourselves in the main house of 60m 2 in which you will be
staying, have renovated with the utmost love and respect to its original
folk architecture, keeping in its decoration some of the original 19th
century furniture of its first owner. At the same time, it is a modern,
functional and completely private accommodation. Casa Terra Vedema
aims to offer you all modern comforts, hospitality and relaxation, so that
it might feel like a home away from home.
The house can comfortably accommodate up to five people, be they a
family, two couples, or a group of five friends. On the ground floor, there
is a bedroom with a king-size bed, a fully functional kitchen (equipped
with electric cooker with oven, large fridge, as well as the necessary
small electrical appliances), a living room with two sofas –one of which
turns into a single bed- and a double shower bathroom. On the upper
floor, you will find the second bedroom, also with a king-size bed, its
own toilet, and a mini fridge.
Natural light and air flow freely in every corner of the house while the
windows overlook the various parts of the settlement of Finikia or the
sea.
From the roof of the accommodation, you are offered a 360° panoramic
view, while you can enjoy the enchanting sunset without having to move
to the bustling Oia.
Equally delightful is the view from the comfortable courtyard of the
accommodation, where the outdoor dining area and the small heated
plunge pool, with the four-seater jacuzzi which will help you cool down
and unwind while you gaze at the Aegean Sea and the idyllic sunset.
In Casa Terra Vedema one can enjoy absolute privacy and it can become
your personal paradise every moment of the day.
Other things to note
During the 19th century, alongside the settlement of Oia, the rural
settlement of Finikia developed. During this period, Finikia hosted the
ship ownes holiday cottages and their “canaves” (cave houses or
houses carved into the rock). On the other hand, the smaller cave
dwellings of the settlement housed the rural population who worked in
the plains and the vineyards of Baxedes, a nearby area.
Today, Finikia is one of Santorini’s best-preserved traditional
settlements. In being not too close and yet not too far from the
cosmopolitan and touristy Oia, it retains the privilege of providing
absolute serenity, relaxation, peace, and closeness with Santorini's
nature, as it can only be reached on foot.
Finikia succeeds in providing its visitors with the best of modern quality
tourism, without compromising its distinctive traditional character or its
authenticity.
Finally, it is here, in the picturesque alleyways of Finikia, barely a stone's
throw away from Casa Terra Vedema, that some of Santorini’s best
taverns and restaurants await you. Also, near the accommodation is the
mini market of the village.
