Location
The resort of Porto Cesareo is known for its beautiful beaches and lively nightlife. The coastline slopes gently into the water which makes it perfect for children and elderly visitors. There are several islands not far off the coast which can be reached by boat. Visitors can either rent a boat, hire a pedalo, or take part in a day trip from Porticciolo di Porto Cesareo (13-minute walk).
For self-catering, Porto Cesareo’s weekly market (Thursday) is the best place to find the finest local food, including olive oil and a variety of cheeses. Alternatively, there are several supermarkets and grocery stores in the town centre just 5 minutes away.
Further down the Ionian coast, the historic town of Gallipoli (30 minutes) is a very popular tourist destination during the summer months. In Greek, Gallipoli means “beautiful city” and the town does not disappoint. The town’s ancient walls soar over the harbour and fishing port. There is a daily fish market where if you go early you can pick up the freshest catch of the day.
The closest airport is at Brindisi - 1 hour away by car.
